At the 1st edition of the ADI Compasso d’Oro International Award dedicated to the theme "Design for Food and Nutrition", the furnishing Systems Start Up (Design Giorgio Di Tullio e Raffaele Gerardi + IFI R&D) e Bar Sharing (Design Giorgio Di Tullio + IFI R&D) obtain two HONORABLE MENTIONS for the category "Design for Food and Consumption". New significant recognitions for the design, but also for the social impact of the two projects, that want to speak to the young generations and meet the needs of the public premises of the future.
Tonda will be on display until 31 October at the Urbino DATA, the hub of the international initiatives for Expo put on by Pesaro and Urbino province. The charming architectural structure covering 2,000 square metres on the Mercatale, which was used as stables in the 16th century, wants to highlight and display the excellent products of the Marche region, from design to agribusiness, as well as to be a place to meet foreign delegations who will come down to the Marche region from the Milan Expo.
Following Start Up, Bellevue with Panorama technology has also received a Special Mention in the grandesignEtico International Award, awarded to products that fulfil in a big way the ethical and technological innovation requirements.
With its advertising campaign for Bellevue + Panorama technology, IFI won the Comunicando prize 2015, in the Graphic Design category. Comunicando is the regular event, now in its ninth year, promoted by the magazine puntoIT gelato&barpasticceria, which each year rewards the best advertising campaigns of companies operating in the artisan gelato, bar and pastry sector. The award ceremony was held on 20 January at Sigep Rimini.
The ‘Industrial Designer’ project promoted by Confindustria Pesaro and Urbino was set up with the intention of putting companies that are not involved in design in touch with young industrial designers. During the training phase, 18 young designers visited IFI’s headquarters, coming into contact with a company that has made design and innovation its strength.
Students at Camerino University develop research projects applied to the food & beverage sector, working closely with IFI’s R&D department.
Bellevue with Panorama technology was exhibited in Brussels at the headquarters of the Council of the European Union together with all the products that won the Compasso d’Oro 2014, for the entire six months of the Italian presidency.
Bellevue with Panorama technology, designed by Marc Sadler in conjunction with IFI’s R&D department, won the first Compasso d’Oro in ADI’s history awarded to the artisan gelato sector. Bellevue with Panorama technology represents a brand new synthesis of two fundamental characteristics of artisan gelato-making that have always been the antithesis of each other: perfect preservation of the gelato in pozzetto counters and visibility of the flavours in display cases. IFI’s name thus reached the highest rank of the design hall of fame, together with the names of designers and companies that have made the history of industrial design and to which falls the task of renewing the prestige of Italian know-how in the world.
On the occasion of IFI S.p.A’s fiftieth anniversary, the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano conferred his medaglia di rappresentanza (medal of recognition) on the company.

Bellevue with Panorama technology was selected in the ADI Design Index 2013, ADI’s annual publication which is used for pre-selecting products to be awarded, every three years, the Compasso d’Oro.
The Bar Sharing furnishing system won the Bar category award dedicated to the most innovative products for hotels, bars, large-scale distribution and catering, awarded by Rimini Horeca Expo at Rimini Fiera.
Supported by the President of the Republic and sponsored by the Ministry for Economic Development, Verona University and the Verona Chamber of Commerce, the aim of the prize is to promote corporate monographs as a corporate communication tool for stimulating interest among private and public companies, advertising and public relations agencies, creative organisations and publishing houses. In Hannover, the Lunette display case and the HCS closure system were awarded the iF Product Design Award for their highly innovative character.
In Essen, Germany, the Lunette display case with HCS closure system was given a Red Dot Design Honourable Mention in the Product Design category. Each year there are over eleven thousand applicants for the award from around sixty countries.
The Start Up furnishing system won the Horeca 24 Innovation Award in the Furnishings and Materials category, awards promoted by the magazines in the 24 Ore group, Bargiornale, Pianetahotel, Ristoranti-Imprese del Gusto and Ristorazione Collettiva. Set up to promote and disseminate knowledge of innovation in the HORECA channel, the Horeca 24 award recognises innovation based on the capacity to interpret trends in consumption and the needs of market operators for reference segments, promoting above all innovation with the company’s front-line involvement in development.
The International grandesignEtico Award gave a Special Mention to the Start Up system; it was awarded by a jury made up of representatives from the institutional, academic and business worlds. The awards, following on from the nominations in 2011-2012, were for products manufactured based on quality, innovation and technology, while considering the environment and the social, ethical and humanitarian dimension. The event, organised by the Plana cultural association, rounded off a programme celebrating 20 years of activity of grandesignEtico.
With the Tonda gelato display case, IFI distinguished itself as an example of sustainability, innovation and seriousness at the Sodalitas Social Awards, which reward companies dedicated to programmes with high social content and value. The Sodalitas Foundation aims to create a network of regional collaborative ventures and relationships in order to contribute to corporate culture moving towards an increasingly sustainable and responsible economy.
In 2009, the Tonda gelato display case was selected to be part of the Farnesina Design Collection, set up by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to promote our country’s artistic production in the design sector. As well as being permanently on display in the Sala dei Mappamondi of the Palazzo della Farnesina in Rome, Tonda travelled around various world capitals, becoming an ambassador of successful Italian design at international events such as:

The Affresco gelato parlour concept was displayed at “The beauty of things”. Resource regions: “the Marche” exhibition as part of the exhibition on innovation of ideas, production and technologies, organised by ADI’s Marche, Abruzzo, Molise Delegation at the Manifattura Tabacchi at Chiaravalle (AN).
The Chocolat praline-pastry display case was selected in the ADI Design Index 2010. Chocolat was designed by architect Raffaella Morosini and represents a treasure chest of glass and light designed for master chocolatiers and pastry chefs who wish to highlight their masterpieces by displaying them like real jewellery.
The first International Design Biennale, promoted and organised by the Eduardo Vittoria Architecture and Design School of Camerino University and the Piceno University Consortium, put together a varied programme of events dedicated to design which was a significant time for thinking and debate on design as an opportunity for regional development.
The art of design and the art of gelato-making come together in Affresco, a designer gelato parlour concept, an elegant space in the form of a palette, created by designer Beppe Riboli in conjunction with students from NABA (New Fine Arts Academy in Milan). Affresco is a unique mixture of Italian art, starting from the name that refers to the painting technique (fresco), a concept where design, culture of communication, technology, food science and the art of Italian master gelato-makers fuse together in perfect harmony.
At Europain (Paris), IFI received the award of the same name as a company that had distinguished itself especially through innovation.
In the main courtyard of Venaria Palace, the Tonda display case received a Mention at the 21st ADI Compasso d’Oro award. IFI thus joined the historic collection of the famous design awards as a product of national interest.
IFI supports the Il Cantiere del Logo event organised by the Sociology Faculty of Urbino University. This initiative was intended to make Urbino the reference point of the link between brand and region, freeing the city from the stereotype of a place locked in defence of a glorious past, rather than aimed at understanding a dynamic present and continually speeding up.

At the “Design made in Pesaro” exhibition at Rocca Costanza, IFI presented the inflatable stand designed by Denis Santachiara where chairs, stools and sofas designed by Italian designers were exhibited as well as Tonda.
Tonda won a Confindustria Award for Excellence, an award for companies that are strengths of the Italian production system and which champion innovation and regional development and Italian production in the world.
The high-level New Entertainment Design training course was set up by the Milan Politecnico Consortium to devise and design innovative night-time bars. As part of the collaborative venture, course members were welcomed to the headquarters and factories of IFI, the course’s academic partner.
Since 1956 ADI has brought together designers, companies, researchers, teachers, critics and journalists around the themes of design: design projects, consumption, recycling and training. It is the leading player in the development of industrial design as a cultural and economic phenomenon. Its purpose is to promote and contribute to implement, on a non-profit basis, the most appropriate conditions for designing goods and services, through cultural debate, intervention in institutions and provision of services. Since 1962, it has owned and managed the Compasso d’Oro award, the oldest award in Europe in the design sector and its historic collection contains winning objects and documentation, promoting historical research and putting on exhibitions providing more detailed knowledge.
The Platinum IFI Concept project (which the Tonda display case was part of) obtained recognition from the Ministry for Production Activities as a Highly Innovative Project for the business categories to which it belongs.
