Ifi wins the second Compasso d'Oro thanks to PopApp

Ifi is proud to announce the second Compasso d’Oro of its entrepreneurial history received with the PopApp compact gelato shop, developed by the Group’s in-house Research and Development department.

The ADI panel motivated its choice by drawing attention to the highly innovative design and its ‘compactness and transportability’, which ‘make it possible to take not only gelato anywhere in the world, but also the flavour of Italian design’.

We believe that this recognition -the world’s most prestigious within the design field – also rewards the authenticity of a key representative of Italian culture: gelato, a genuine product that, through our project PopApp, we would like to contribute spreading worldwide.” ifi President Gianfranco Tonti states.

Besides PopApp, the XXV Compasso d'Oro Edition assigned an Honourable Mention to the pastry-praline display case Colonna, design Giulio Iacchetti, for the unprecedented technological and formal characteristics of the object.

In cinema it is the OSCAR and in science the NOBEL. In design, it is the ‘COMPASSO D’ORO’.

The Compasso d'Oro was set up in 1954 from an idea by Gio Ponti; it is the oldest and most recognised design award in the world and is awarded every 3 years by ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale - Association for the Industrial Design). As well as the enormous prestige of the award, winning the Compasso d’Oro means joining the Historical Collection of the ADI Compasso d'Oro Award, declared a “National Heritage Asset”.
In 2014, IFI is the first company to win the Award with a gelato display case. As a result of the innovation and research process that characterises it as a key brand in its sector, it has already received a Compasso d'Oro Recommendation for the Tonda gelato display case in 2008, as well as various entries in the ADI Design Index yearbooks.

The Chairman of IFI Gianfranco Tonti says: “Receiving the highest award in the design field is extremely satisfying, and testimony to companies which, with passion and sacrifice, intend to continue to operate and provide employment in Italy, an opportunity to relaunch the message that looking to tomorrow means conveying new languages, new ideas and new approaches. IFI has dedicated itself to the culture of innovation since the early sixties, and now has a Research and Development Department with over thirty in-house professionals working alongside established and emerging industrial designers, and collaborating with design colleges, opening its doors to their students. With our philosophy and our vision, the Compasso d'Oro is the most sought after goal, a medal that everyone at IFI can view with well-deserved pride. At the same time it is seen as a responsibility and a new starting point, because, and rightly so, it imposes on us the desire to be honoured in the future, for our innovation. In conclusion, I wish to thank Marc Sadler, who once more has been able to collect an award in a different sector, supporting us with passion in this splendid adventure.”
